I wore
this on the greyhound. they played "Save the Last Dance"... no one sat
next to me... ![]() We all got extra searched on the way back, so there was kind of a line going through security. I had a couple of hours to get back to the city before class, and even the best neighborhood in Philly's looks like a brownstone version of the Bronx. I just went into patience mode and took the time to eat a little more breakfast (cookies and cherry-flavahed caffeine! swell!). This woman starts in on how it's not fair and they really should let her on the bus since _her_ ticket was more expensive and she has to get back to the city this morning. The ticket guy is thinking it over as she keeps going on about how wrong it is that they won't let her on, even after the ticket guy is fine with it and moved on to taking tickets from the people behind her. She's still talking about it when she hits the security person, so the ticketing guy tells her again that its fine if she goes this time, but really she should get this other ticket. I'm still kinda watching this as she breaks out into this whole rant that goes past me until she gets to "...and you know, they blew up our city. I'm sorry, but that's just no kind of attitude to have. I don't need to be hastled before I get on this bus." I dropped my cookie. It was the sort of thing that I kept thinking about all day. You know, something in Maya would misbehave, "...and they blew up our city. I don't need this in my day." What type of excuse is that? If she's riding the greyhound, she's probably not a valued member of our financial services industry, but she might have relatives who were affected... and then I started thinking about all of the dancing around I was doing... "loved ones" "affected" "closure" vs. the reality of the big grey cloud of concrete and ash and, well, body parts... Maybe that ash is the closest some of these families will get to a body... Closure my ass -- that's a whole zip code at ground zero. I hated those buildings, and the mall downstairs had all these dumb mall stores... Still, a whole zip code. 10048. odd days |
